The Engine Exhaust Particle Sizer 3090 (EEPS™) spectrometer measures the size distribution of engine exhaust particle emissions from 5.6 to 560 nm with the fastest time resolution available.

PRODUCT DETAILS

The Engine Exhaust Particle Sizer 3090 (EEPS™) spectrometer measures the size distribution of engine exhaust particle emissions from 5.6 to 560 nm with the fastest time resolution available. Users can visualize and study the dynamic behavior of particle emissions that occur during transient test cycles, during the first few seconds of a cold start, or during regeneration of a particle trap or diesel particulate filter (DPF).

The EEPS spectrometer displays measurements in 32 channels total (16 channels per decade). It operates over a wide particle concentration range, including down to 200 particles/cm³. It operates at ambient pressure to prevent evaporation of volatile and semivolatile particles, and it requires no consumables.

FEATURES AND BENEFITS

WIDE SIZE RANGE AND WIDE DYNAMIC CONCENTRATION RANGE

  • The EEPS spectrometer measures particle emissions from 5.6 to 560 nm, reporting a total of 32 channels (16 channels per decade). Very sensitive electrometers provide the ability to measure particle concentrations greater than four orders of magnitude. This instrument is sensitive enough to measure concentration as low as 200 particles/cm³, making it well-suited for characterizing exhaust after-treatment devices like particle traps and DPFs.

REAL-TIME MEASUREMENTS

  • A data rate of 10 Hz enables users to identify and correlate fast changing particle emissions with specific engine events during the test cycle.

SELECTABLE MATRICES

  • Selectable matrices tailored to application for more accurate measurement. (See Application Note EEPS-005 for more information)

ROBUST DESIGN AND OPERATION

  • All EEPS components are housed in a single cabinet that weighs just 32 kg, including the sample pump, making it easy to move the instrument between test rigs and take up less space in the test cell.
  • Operation of the EEPS does not require a specialist to use it properly. After the instrument warms up for about 10 minutes, a microprocessor measures temperature and barometric pressure automatically and converts those values to volumetric flow. This maintains calibration and provides accurate and reproducible measurements.

SERVICE MADE SIMPLE

  • When it's time to clean the instrument, a cleaning tool (supplied) allows users to quickly wipe away soot or other particles that may have built up on the electrometers. The process takes less than 15 minutes - saving users time and money

FRONT PANEL DISPLAY

  • Using the display and built-in control knob, users can view measurements in real-time and quickly check operating parameter settings and status. Data can be viewed in a variety of ranges and formats, including auto-range and linear or log scale.

FLEXIBLE DATA MANAGEMENT

EEPS software combines data collection and analysis for convenience. It offers many advanced features including:

  • Views of the entire test cycle with the ability to zoom in on specific events
  • 3D movie view of size distribution and particle concentration versus time
  • Handling of effective densities to calculate and output PM
  • Selectable matrices tailored to application for more accurate measurement

APPLICATIONS

  • Engine exhaust and aftertreatment characterization
  • Brake dust and tire wear
