Since more than 30 years, technology-oriented particle analysis and sensor systems have been developed, designed and manufactured under the name Topas. They can be used to generate, condition and analyse test and reference aerosols. In addition, more than 60 series devices and 20 test systems of our medium-sized Saxon company have been widely used and proven for the classification and testing of filters and filter media in worldwide industry and basic research for decades.
TESTING SYSTEMS
Aerosol technologies from the fields of generation, conditioning, particle measurement and data analysis are found as a combination in Topas’ contemporary test systems. They combine the following elements from Topas’ own production:
- technical hardware
- equipment instrumentation
- precise sensor technology
- programmable logic controllers
- user-friendly software
Each element can be abstracted to all test systems from the company, whereby different integrations are possible due to the applied standards or the diversity of the test item. The modular structure ensures a high degree of interchangeability – a feature that customers especially appreciate.
AEROSOL GENERATION
Topas' goal is to simulate real processes from the fields of industry and the environment. In this way, the formation and dispersion of aerosols and subsequently the efficiency of filters and separators can be evaluated. Depending on the application or standard, different requirements are set for the aerosol specification:
- particle substance
- particle concentration
- particle size distribution
Topas offers technologies for generating test, reference and calibration aerosols from liquids and solids. Liquid nebulisers, mist generators, and dust dispersers also belong to this product category. Find your solution from a large number of devices ranging from the very specific to the very versatile.
CONDITIONING
It is not always possible to generate aerosols in the first step just as they will be subsequently required in the testing process. For this reason, we make targeted changes to properties such as the concentration or the electrostatic charge and can map the changes in the real process or meet standard requirements. The properties of the aerosols that can be influenced include:
- concentration
- particle size distribution
- charge state

PARTICLE MEASUREMENTS
Particle measurement technology is generally used to record particle concentrations and particle size distributions. In order to detect time patterns and trends, we record natural aerosol processes indoors and outdoors in our measurements.
During a filter test, our technologies can determine the states of aerosols before and after the test object. Thus, by means of reference and test aerosols, it is possible to investigate the performance of separators in a targeted manner.
Another application is the quantification of aerosols, as is done in toxic tests. In the indoor area, we are able to qualify entire buildings or installations.

DATA ANALYSIS
With the application-specific system solutions from our company, you complete three steps at once: control of the devices, acquisition of measurement data, and documentation of the result.
